I’m heading to Austin later this week to speak on a panel about startups at SXSW. It’s my first time at the conference, so I’ll let you know what I think of the event another time, but here is what I think about events in general.
It is never about the event. It is always about what you make of it. You can’t confuse action for traction.
An event can’t be deemed a success based on the number of business cards you collect, Twitter followers you add or books you sign. It is about how you engage with the people you meet, how you connect with them after, and ultimately, what happens as a result of the interaction.
