Motivating employees is a hot topic in every company, every team, and with every manager. And nowhere is the work ethic more legendary than in Silicon Valley.
How do Silicon Valley companies get their employees to work weekends and to pull all-nighters? How do they get them to work on “death marches” to hit launch deadlines? How do they get them to focus on goal completion and not on how many hours left until 5pm?
Many people wrongly think the answer is the perq’s. While Silicon Valley companies are notorious for their foosball tables, free meals, espresso machines and laundry service, perq’s are a convenience but not a motivator.
